CRAB SUPERNOVA--July 5, 1054
On July 5, 1054, a star in what is known today as
the Crab nebula went supernova (exploded). The star
became so brilliant that it was visible even during
daylight hours.
In the southwestern United States and northern
Mexico, a depiction of the Crab Supernova of 1054 is
painted on rock surfaces. Chinese astronomers also
recorded the event, but curiously, there were no
references made to the event in "dark ages" Europe.
